Principal Update
Ferrucci families,
Next Thursday, October 22nd we have our fall conference day.
Please look at the information in this email to sign up.
Last week I notified you about our campaign to have students turn their cameras on and to engage more with classes. I am happy to say that students did a great job of putting in effort in this a rea! This coming week (October 19th – 23rd) we put “Pause Week” into effect. There are more details later in the email that explains what you can expect, but we are looking forward to bringing the stress level down.
I hope you are doing well, please reach out to Ferrucci if you need assistance and take care of yourself and your family.

District News
If you missed our district’s Town Hall on Wednesday, please see the graphic below which explains when students could be back in the building.
Schedule change – Tuesday, November 10th and Tuesday, November 24th will be full, live school days. This change was made for all secondary schools for the whole district because students have Veteran’s Day and the day before Thanksgiving off. See schedule below.

Free Meals
Meals are distributed every Monday at Ferrucci, unless it is a holiday (then it is the next school day), from 11:00-Noon. Any student, up to 18 years old, is eligible. If you cannot make this time on Monday, contact the FJH main office and we’ll do our best to help you on other days and at other times!
Cameras on, Cougs!
We were excited to see several students take this to heart and turn their cameras on! One area that I would like to alert parents to is that we do have a group of students who “log in” to their classes for attendance and then either put their cameras off and disengage or log in for a few seconds and then log out. As a parent of two junior high students, I know that this is not the easiest time for our kids. I humbly ask that you continue to encourage them to try their hardest and reach out when they need help.

Want a library book? Check this out!
Our library is setting up a system for “curbside” pick up and drop off for library books. Students will need to put a book they want to check out “on hold” in Destiny and then our library will send students an email in Schoology when the book is ready to be picked up!
Fall conferences
We will be having Fall Conferences on Thursday, October 22nd. October 22nd and 23rd will be half days for all students meaning students will not have asynchronous time on those two days.

Pause week details
During the week of October 19th – 23rd, we will be taking a pause from assigning new homework. Please see the details and explanation below:
- Monday – no Character Strong lesson in Homeroom, teachers will connect with students about work and how they are feeling about classes. Teachers may “open” a quiz or test to assess previous work/learning and they will encourage students to finish assigned work or make up work from previous weeks.
- Tuesday – Friday
- No new homework assigned.
- Teachers:
- may teach new lessons and content, maximum 30 minutes for each synchronous class period
- review lessons or go over concepts students may be struggling with
- connect with students who are missing work, need to retake an assessment or connect with students who are not engaging
- may give a test/quiz assessing previous work
- allow time for students to get caught up on missing work and get help
- will continue to be available during asynchronous time and office hours on Tuesday and Wednesday (these times are not available on Thursday and Friday because of conferences)
Interim Progress Report (IPR)
Grades will be posted on Tuesday, October 20th at 3:00 PM. Please review your students grades with them by looking at Home Access Center or Schoology. The first IPR often lines up with the end of the first unit of lessons in many classes. A reminder to families – reassessments for units that have been completed end when the final assessment is given. This is a good piece of information to talk about with your student.
Afternoon asynchronous time and office hours
Students need to utilize this time to connect with teachers, get additional help, retake a quiz, turn in assignments, and ask questions about submitting schoolwork. Please utilize this time because teachers are available for help without more work being assigned.
Additional supplies for remote learning
If you still need to pick up supplies for classes, please come to Ferrucci so we can get items for your students. We have everything at the front door ready to go, so it should be a very quick stop!
Microsoft Office for 7th grade students
LIVE teaching will be held on Mondays at 2:00 PM. During this time, students can access the Teams link via their Microsoft Schoology. Also, course content in Schoology is set up with completion tools – students must complete/view items to open new content. Please email Ms. Youngquist (email hyperlinked) with questions.
Attendance
We always appreciate knowing when students are not going to be in attendance. Please continue to call Ferrucci or email at fjhattendance@puyallup.k12.wa.us to share reasons for your child's absence, but know that while we are doing online learning you will still receive a robo-call in the evening letting you know your child was absent. Sorry for that inconvenience.
ATHLETICS - FJH Athletics - still on hold…more to come when we know it.
